Welcome to Kingsbury County,

South Dakota

Until further notice all departments are open by appoinment only. All Business transactions will end at 4:00 PM Monday- Friday. Please do as many transactions as possible through mail or email.  Only the West door will have limited access. The Treasurer's office can also be accessed by the west windows. Please see the department page for specific details or our full website for department contact numbers.

We want to assure our customers that we are taking extra precautions to prevent the spread of the COVID--19 virus.

Kingsbury County is located on the eastern side of South Dakota.  The county was created in 1873 and organized in 1880.  It is named for two brothers, George W. and T. A. Kingsbury of the prominent Kingsbury family.  It's county seat is De Smet.  The courthouse was built in 1898 and is located at 202 2nd St. SE in De Smet.  The residents of Kingsbury County are proud to say that the Kingsbury County Courthouse is listed on the Federal Historical Register.
